A week down the South Oxford Canal

The last week we have experienced all weather as you will see. As the rain poured down just before the locks before Braunston and the 8 lock was closed because of water shortages we decided to stay and prayed the weather would improve. The next day the lock was open so decided to wait for another boat to go up with as this would be the last of double locks for awhile. We met up with a Canadian couple with their cousin, they like us were going all the way up this flight of locks so off we went. The rain continued to pour down, we all got thoroughly drenched but all enjoyed each other’s company.

Our next stop was Banbury where we visited the statue to ‘Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross’, the historical Tooleys boat yard, went to Church at The Peoples Church which was next to Chuch House but would you believe it was only a pub, but we had lunch there, met up with some Waterway Chaplains and most of all, did our laundry.

Continuing towards Oxford, it was as if God painted a new picture at each turn, some of the most beautiful natural areas we have gone through. We are currently held up with a closed lock at Kidlington Green just north of Oxford. It is due to open again tomorrow (Thursday 16th) but by the way we see them working we wonder.
