Shropshire Union Canal

From the Llangollen Canal we entered the Shropshire at Nantwich, the Shropshire goes from around Chester to near Birmingham we joined it at Nantwich. It was a leisurely trip where we met a number of interesting people along the way.

Spring is in the air

The worn steps and they don't seem to be leading anywhere!

You wouldn't want to be tall living in this place

A well deserved cuppa after doing some locks on a lovely day

This is a picture but shows how the horses pulled the narrowboats along before the day of the Engine

All the tunnels have these groves cut over many years of the horses going through

The map is always at hand

It was Mothering Sunday on the 31st March and the children at Market Drayton Methodist Church had some flowers for all the mums. We spent a lovely weekend with friends we made the Sunday before when they were visiting friends at Ellesmere Cellar Church. Spent time with them Saturday then they picked us up for Church Sunday.

You come across a lot of interesting things and people along the canals, here are some.

The local Blacksmith travels far and wide on the Canal system

These fenders are on the front and rear of most boats ready to play bumps!

Gongoozlers out watching the boats as they go past

Selling home made cards from their boat

Known to be the shortest and most unusual location for a telegraph pole

No shop at Cadbury Wharf but we had some in the cupboard

Fun in the park after having our fish and chips from a recommended shop in Gnosall while we were going through.

Wonderful crafts and gifts at the Audlem Wharf and Mill, great place to stop and enjoy the company of the current owners while admiring the wares.
